Kieran Read - All Black Captain - Event Photography for Client Plumbing World

Kieran Read is one of the greatest All Black captains in New Zealand rugby history — a world champion, two-time World Rugby Player of the Year, and one of the most respected figures the game has produced. Having the opportunity as a Hawke's Bay commercial photographer to travel the country and photograph Kieran on several occasions was a genuine highlight of my career.

What struck me every time was how gracious, approachable, and down to earth he was — and I'll also mention, really, really tall. There's something about photographing people of that stature, both literally and figuratively, that sharpens your eye. You want to do justice to the person in front of you, and Kieran made that easy every time.

These kinds of engagements are exactly what I love about event and commercial photography in Hawke's Bay and beyond. When the atmosphere is relaxed, the subject is engaged, and everyone in the room is genuinely enjoying themselves, it shows in the images. As a Hawke's Bay event photographer I've been lucky enough to work at some fantastic events over the years, and the ones where there's real energy and warmth in the room always produce the best work.
